How To Write Screenplays and Scripts

The concept states who the hero or heroine of the story is and what he or she wants to achieve.

The characters are those metaphors that behave like people inside the universe of the story.

Plot and structure manages events and their timing in that universe, the spine of the story.

Scenes are made of description, dialog, and action, and are containers for the story's progress.

A Book or Screenplay's Purpose

The screenplay has to inspire emotion in its readers, and, later (as a movie), in its audience. To accomplish this, there has to be a relatable, admirable, or sympathetic character who is either just plain good at what he does (James Bond), or overcomes desperate and dangerous (physical or psychological) obstacles to achieve what he or she is desperately driven to want (Dorothy, THE WIZARD OF OZ.)

Book or Screenplay Story Concept

What if...?

Every book storyline should begin with that question. What is the story concept.

For instance:

What if people could project their minds into the internet and combat AI agents and viruses in a mirror-world of this one? Omniverse.

What if the Fountain Of Youth were real and you could live forever?

What if there was a love story with the sinking of the Titanic as a background and container?

What if you did a remake of Demon With A Glass Hand, about a humanoid machine that comes from the future to terminate a woman of this time period.

Letting your imagination work on such questions should bring you to a story or character worthy of your ideas.

Write one brief sentence that describes your storyline: My Script is about a _____ who __________________.

My Script is about a burned out ex cop who becomes a private eye.

Then, let your characters fill in the details of the plot. What motivates them? What drives them? What do they want? What blocks or hinders them? Who or what is in their way?

Why don't they just "walk away" from it all; what binds and glues them to the struggle?

Meld events, character, and action. They will drive each other forward into the story.

How To Write A Book or Screenplay

Carry a notebook or index cards and a pen for your screenplay. Watch EVERYWHERE for ideas, dialogue, and scenes, but only for those that will advance and move your plot and characters forward into the story.
